Lillehammer

Olympic town above Lake Mjøsa.

Trajet

2 h chauffeur

Lillehammer, two hours by chauffeur north of Oslo at the head of Lake Mjøsa, hosted the 1994 Winter Olympics and remains Norway's most cultivated winter-sports town. FFGR Norway arranges access to the Olympic bobsleigh and luge track, ski days at Hafjell and Kvitfjell, the open-air Maihaugen folk museum (Northern Europe's largest), and the celebrated Art Nouveau collection at the Lillehammer Art Museum. The drive itself, along the Mjøsa shoreline past the Eidsvoll constitution house, is among the most agreeable in southern Norway. In summer, the town pivots to lake life — the paddle steamer Skibladner, the oldest in the world still in service, calls here.
